Location of Windows Updates

Where are downloaded Windows XP updates stored before they are installed?

WU might have changed since back then, of course, but back when I was on XP I sometimes had problems with MS Update errors, so gave up on that for a while and downloaded the updates from the links in the appropriate bulletins. Under those circumstances, they were saved as EXEs in \Windows\WUTemp and needed manually run from there.

One minor drawback of that procedure was that they did *not* get added to your update history. However, the next time you ran an Updates check-scan, it did correctly recognize that they were already properly installed.
