Hi guys, any specific reason to drop 17.2 and install 17.3 functionality-wise? Or is it gonna be an automatic update from 17.2 to 17.3? Thanks for advises and opinions
Doesn't Mint follow almost the same road as Ubuntu? So, if Ubuntu 14 updates from 14.04.1 to 14.04.2, I would assume that Mint (the common release) would do the same: Mint 17.2, to 17.3. But I'm just guessing. If that's actually the case, I would first try to update the system and see if a new Kernel comes in. I remember that Ubuntu 12.04.3 came with Kernel 3.5, but only if you installed the system via CD. If you updated from Ubuntu 12.04.2 to 12.04.3 via "apt update ; apt upgrade" you would still have Linux-3.2. If that happens, just open Synaptic and select the new packages you want. However, it has been years since I last used Mint and Ubuntu so I don't know if they fixed this little issue.
The changes are described in the whatsnew links. An easy upgrade will be available soon to 17.2 users.
I could be wrong, but I've always assumed that Mint and Ubuntu release these .x ISO's just to cut down on the number of updates one has to go thru when installing fresh. If you have 17.0 installed, it should automatically keep updating itself the entire time if it's LTS, and it should be basically the same as 17.3 shouldn't it? Maybe I'm wrong though, I don't know..
Linux Mint with AMD Radeon here. The problem with reduced brightness seems to be fixed, I can't believe it. It's time to switch the remaining XP installations to Linux Mint now.
