I'm hoping to find out what unneeded "extras" I have running on my computer. Recently my computer was plagued with adware and possibly trojans by computer-illiterate members of my family using IE instead of Firefox, and I ran Ad-Aware 6 at least four times to get rid of everything I could. However, a "Norton" pop-up that only appeared with the adware infection is still there -- it seems rather suspicious to me, so I haven't clicked on it, and only appears at start-up. A small IE-related window also pops up every now and then, saying it can't connect to the internet though I haven't touched IE in the many times I've rebooted my computer. The entire browser doesn't launch, just this tiny window with "Work Offline" and another button.
Unrelatedly, I've had problems getting an Internet connection to run on my computer.. but HijackThis seems to have already identified what the problem is. Now what I need to know is if I need to reinstall my wireless LAN software, or just find a place to download that specific dll.

    Hi Kashira,

Before you start please unzip hijackthis.exe to a folder of it´s own. The program creates backups in the folder it is in. In a Temp folder they easily disappear.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\System32\SearchBar.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us9.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us9.hpwis.com/

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,Shellnext = http://us9.hpwis.com/
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wcmdmgr] C:\WINDOWS\wt\updater\wcmdmgrl.exe -launch

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pfnnq] C:\WINDOWS\wwriqto.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] "C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2hFhdVV1] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\2hFhdVV1.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dp-him.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2hFhdVV1.exe] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\2hFhdVV1.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WNSI] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnscpsv.exe

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\windows\webhdll.dll' missing

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\TV Media <= entire folder
    C:\WINDOWS\wwriqto.exe
    C:\Program Files\webHancer <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnscpsv.exe

Then you will need to empty this folder:
    C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp
Do not delete the folder itself just everything in it. The Loxcal Settings folder is a hidden one by default. Check here how to "unhide" those: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=192

    Pieter

    Done and noted, thanks.
I also seem to have discovered a SysAI folder in the Windows directory, housing the program SysAI.exe I thought I'd gotten rid of, amongst other things. Should I delete this whole folder?
Also, is it really necessary to check the "O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\windows\webhdll.dll' missing" in HijackThis? I'm curious as to how doing that would help it run, as opposed to reinstalling the software my LAN reciever runs on.
I apologize for my ignorance, but is it necessary to also delete all folders along with the files in the "Temp" folder? An Apropos folder I've found there I'm pretty sure needs to go along with the previously mentioned SysAI folder, though I'd like to be reassured by a professional I'm right.

So I wait as my computer sits in Safe Mode..

Both the SysAi and Apropos folders should have been removed by AdAware or Spybot if you followed this post here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=15913

The webhdll.dll belongs to WebHancer and has nothing to do with your LAN receiver.
Fixing it with HijackThis will remove the dead link in the winsock and could restore connection in dong so.

    Regards,

    Pieter
