Does it happen with any USB port?

    Also try a different cable.

Lastly, do you have a MicroSD for your phone? Maybe you can only put stuff on the MicroSD and not on the phone itself.

Sometimes you need to install the device drivers and in order to do that you need to install the OEM software. (Example: For Samsung devices Samsung Kies)

It is a USB device so the drivers are already on your computer. You can also download the USB drivers for your device from LG's website. I believe the following is the link for your model.

If it is still not showing up in my computer, it may be that your computer is not assigning it a drive letter. Go to Disk Management and see if you can see your phone there. If the phone has a built-in memory as well as a microSD card slot, it should be assigned two different letters by your computer. Maybe your computer is getting confused, so I will try removing the microSD card and try connecting the phone with the computer. It may work this way.

Just install the USB driver for windows and then connect you phone to the computer with the provided USB cable, it should show up as a connected drive in your my computer. Thats it.

Yes with the driver..now I need to know why some ringtones I get
off free sites have a lock on them and cannot assign them?

Are there some that do work? I would try comparing the two and see if you can find a pattern. Maybe file size, format, or ring tone length?

I knew it was the driver, it has happened to me countless times. :D

What do you mean by cannot assign them?
Do you mean that you can't see them in your ringtone list?

If you just want to download ringtones from the web you do not need to connect your phone to a computer, you can use free apps for this purpose. I assume you are running android OS? Go to Google play and download a free app called Zedge. It has a ton of free ringtones, alarm tones, notification sounds and wallpapers. See if you can get the ringtones to install from Zedge, otherwise your phone is probably locked by the company, Tracfone is it? They may want you to buy ringtones from them only.

    @Raza0007 - It's not an Android phone.
Okay, according this user the ringtones need to be under 300KB size.

This is in fact the whole problem! downloaded and added them to my
phone..nine of them are above the 300KB size (400KB or more) and one at 200KB the only one that will allow to use as a ring tone the 200KB one.

Solution is to find a site that has them listed in size or a way for a regular guy like me to shorten them...which I do not know how??

I want to thank you all for helping me figure this out
    Gordon
