    Hey Ron :)

Yea, it's so much different than the NFL. They did expand down to the States about 10 years ago but it didn't work out.

Nothing can compete with the NFL in the good ole US of A.;)

Doug Flutie rewrote the record books in the few years he was here.

Rocket Ismial also lit it up here for a few years here too. :D

My team (Toronto Argonauts) just signed Andre(Bad Moon) Rison.

Not sure how that's going to work out.....

I knew Flutie had played there. He was perfect for that type football.

    You're right.

He was something to watch. He won 2 Grey Cups(equivelant to superbowl) with my team and 1 Cup with The Calgary Stampeders.

    Good luck to the Texans.;)

How about those Cowboys! hehe :D

If you don't set high goals, you'll never achieve anything. Yes, we do dream. But they often come true. You sound like a Buffalo Bills fan. :D

Maybe so. But he sure was fun to watch when he was playing for the Cowboys. IMO, he is the best to have ever played cornerback.

Hello from the home of Super Bowl XXXIX and the Jacksonville Jaguars!

Just watched my boys punk New England in the final pre-season...we'll see how the regular season goes but I'm definitely thinking that we will not see many folks from Dallas, especially the team, showing up here in February.

Certainly one of the best in the modern era, though I wouldn't discount such 60s-70s standouts as Herb Adderley (Green Bay/Dallas) and Willie Brown (Denver/Oakland).

I've always thought that CB was the toughest position in football. They have to be a cover guy against world-class athletes/sprinters in passing situations and must take on 300-lb charging OL in order to crash into the thighs of a 220-260 lb RB. How they last more than 3-5 years in the NFL is beyond me!

This wouldn't surprise me one bit. :D

I hope not but realistically speaking, you're probably right. ;)

But i can still dream, as a Cowboy fan, u should know all about it.:D ;) :D

    Just joshing ya all....

Sorry, snowbound, you're in for a long fall/winter. The Niners will be wrestling with the AZ Cardinals for last place in a 4-team division. They're paying the price for their salary cap excesses some years back. ;)

Take this with a grain of salt, though....'cause I've been a Rams fan for over 40 years. The Niners used my team to wipe their cleats on for a painfully long time! :(

Houston had the money to beat out L.A. That's it in a nutshell.
And Mcnair spent a bundle to get a team in Houston.

Extremely complex political/social/financial issue, but ronjor hit the nail on the head: Houston was the firstest with the mostest when it came to $$$$.

LA-area fans were very embittered by the Rams' move to Anaheim, then St Louis and da Raiduhs' rent-a-team that came down from Oakland and went back, after Al (Darth) Davis hosed other communities out of money (long story). Finally, political powers in the community have some entrenched belief that pro football will return to the LA Coliseum. That mortifies the other NFL owners, though most won't say it publicly. The area remains a security nightmare. Other proposals have been made for a Rose Bowl renovation, a new stadium downtown & even a stadium in the cavernous parking lot area of Dodger Stadium.

There will probably be a team in LA in the forseeable future because TV will insist on it - probably 2008 -, but the sad part is that it will be some other city's reject. The NFL is loathe to expand beyond the present, equally-balanced 32 franchises. We're likely to end up with the Dolts....er, Colts....or, worse yet, the Chargers & their crazy owner(s).

Hey, a "limey" knows American football-speak!! :) Must be the influence of NFL Europe. ;)

BTW, who knows the real name of "the Gipper"? Hint: it's not Ronald Reagan.

In real life, George Gipp was the Gipper. Born in 1895, George was a varsity athlete at the University of Notre Dame from 1917 to 1920. While planning to pursue a career in baseball, he was convinced by legendary college coach Knute Rockne to play football as well. He led the Fighting Irish to a 27-2-3 record, playing both offense and defense. Several of his records still stand today

Many years ago I worked with an English gentlman. He would scoff at American football. He reminded me that the game of soccer was the real game of football.

    He just didn't get it! :D :D

I've heard the name Knute Rockne before, but never knew that much about him. Here is a quote from Knute Rockne was Notre Dame's master motivator. Interesting article.

"Rockne's celebrated "win one for the Gipper" halftime speech during the 1928 Army game, which purportedly revived Gipps' last words eight years after the player's death, fostered much debate. By some accounts, the coach hadn't been at Gipp's bedside in his final days and the reference was fabrication."
