I've come across https://developers.google.com/apps-script/ and http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp. Both claim to be suited to beginners. Let's see.

 

http://www.learnpython.org/ is a great free interactive python tutorial for all levels, runs from your browser - IMHO one of the best languages to start programming with.

No arguing about that but I would like to at least be able to know more about browser extensions if I can see their code and how to make use of GAS: for that reason, I'm trying to get to grips with JavaScript. I've come as far as this and will take a wee break to avoid a breakdown
