This does not appear to be strictly a NOD issue. I would do a cleanup using Blackspear's excellent link here.

thanks for the link. i don't usually have the time to go through all of his steps.
i feel comfortable poking around in the registry and deleting stuff...

so i do agree that it is not an NOD problem but ya'll are smart!
thanks for the input...anyone else have a more direct answer to my question?
(or should i move this thread to a different part of the forum?)

I’m not an expert in this area (registry). The steps I have posted are fairly comprehensive. If you are just seeing remnants, then you may just want to try a couple of good registry cleaners, I use Registry Mechanic and Regseeker, they work well for me…

    Hope this helps…

    Cheers :D

You would find most if not all msconfig entries in one of the run keys.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServices
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServicesOnce

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServices
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServicesOnce
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunOnce\Setup

    http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

it is a sweet little prog that is used for editting the start up menu...
check it out. nice and effecient. got some good reviews from the people over who suggested it.

    (if i can't provide direct links sorry. :'( )

Just so you know....that is a very permissible link. Also....Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel is very good indeed :)
