Does anyone know any good FREE software that will allow me to burn dvd's? The software that came with my dvd-rw drive won't allow me to burn dvd's, I need to purchase a plug-in to make it work. So thanks very much if anyone knows of any programs and can post about them.

Tried DeepBurner and it won't work. It won't burn anything. Have you actually burned a dvd with the free version of the program yourself? Because it looks like only the payware version will do that, at least on my system. Maybe I'm lacking the necessary codecs or whatever, but it won't work.

Haven't tried DVDX yet maybe that will work. Thanks for your help. :)

Thanks. I tried DVD Shrink it won't burn without the necessary Nero Plug-in that I don't have. :( DVD Shrink won't burn on it's own, but it is still useful.

  6. System please freebielover?

System? I'm not sure I understand. You mean what OS am I using? Because I'm using XP home if that's what you are asking. :)

Hmmm, Imgburn looks somewhat interesting. Maybe that would work, but I'm a bit reluctant to try it for fear of malware. Are you sure it's a safe download?

  10. System? Correct! ;)
*Safe* is relative with our Net in constant motion.

I got Nero 6.6 with my dvd burner, minus the ability to burn dvd's. I found out I need to purchase a plug-in from Nero, if I want to do that. :( So I am looking for a free alternative to burn dvd's, if possible. And thanks very much to everyone for the recommendations so far. :)

  13. freebielover,

ImgBurn look's like your program. Nero as you say doesn't offer FREE dvd-burning sofware.
My search turned up this page that may offer you some additional consideration's ....

That's just pointless! Maybe that's a burner people should avoid buying! Mine came with Nero (Express I think) and was fully functional....and of course, worked with shrink.

My External DVD Plextor DVD burner came with Roxio's easy cd & dvd creator
but I chose DVDDecrypter along with a bought copy of Roio's Easy DVD Copy.
    was not free.

Let me summarize this in alphabetic order, because I'm also looking for FREE CD/DVD burning softwares for my new computer with two CD/DVD drives : BenQ DW1640 and BenQ DW1625 (LightScribe)
Wasn't always sure about the Official Homepage URL, but I didn't have much time either.
Normally I prefer the homepage for downloads of freeware, correct me if I was wrong.

Shrink should rip most older movies. DVD Decrypter should work with most newer titles.

If you're serious about protecting your original DVDs by creating backups, then I would invest in AnyDVD (with lifetime upgrade). One can purchase the older Nero 6.x suite for less than $5. Nero 6.x also comes with a very nice DVD editing software...Nero Recode.

When I connect my TV to a DVD-recorder, I can record movies on DVD.
Unfortunately, most movies on TV are interrupted by advertising.
In Belgium it's usually two times : movie + advertising + movie + advertising + movie.

Can I remove these advertising pieces from a recorded movie on DVD if I have the right software on my computer ?
Because that's what I would like to do.

I completely agree and was going to return my dvd burner but I recently found a really good deal on Nero 7 Ultra Edition so I bought it. I'll use that now for my dvd buring needs. ;)

The drive i bought, incase anyone wants to avoid it, was a MadDog MegaStore 6 in 1 16X dvd +/- rw (double layer). Luckily I only paid $40 for the burner. $40 doesn't seem like too bad of a deal for a dvd burner and now that I have Nero 7 I'm a happy camper. :)

Thanks to everyone for all your helpful replies. :)
