    there are two reasons i stopped using KIS:
    1. resource usage was high.
    2. no custom install option.
    not everyone needs parental control,antispam etc.
    why do kaspersky insist on changing the GUI every year?
    the kis6.0 interface was the best imo.

    i think i will check the kaspersky forum to see wht is changed with kis 2012.

    No they only have posted some screens for the user to get an idea on how v2012 might look, the UI is not final some modifications will be done in later stages;)

    Ohhh, nice bit of info.
    But before you never noticed it working, now with it's own GUI the reputation system you will feel it's really working :D

    I just love the interface ... clean and beautiful...

    finally kaspersky heard what we have been saying for years


    Now, major thing left is to decrease the resource use by it :)

    Probably when CeBIT starts, I guess?

    How cool, that would mean we can Beta test the two classic top-performers next week! EAV/ESS 5.0 Beta and KAV/KIS 2012 Beta.

    It has never been officialy confirmed, but ESET has a stand at the CeBIT 2011 (01 - 05 March) and I do believe they are going to show version 5 for the first time publicly there, and the general expectation is they will also deliver a Beta by then. Also not that long a go the new ESET CEO said on the 21th of january: "The next generation of ESET’s flagship product ESET Smart Security for Windows will be released for public testing as a beta version in the coming weeks."

    Some changes I know:
    * GUI will have a serious refresh
    * Parental Control will be new in the Smart Security
    * It will feature more Cloud infrastructure
    * The SysRescue module will be improved
    * HIPS will be more prominent

    I also think it will feature some more advanced monitoring capabilities. Not sure though.

    Those are welcome changes. Personally i'm more interested towards HIPS and Cloud infra improvement... :)

    This is getting waaaay off topic. :thumbd:

    Does anyone know when the beta testing for KIS 2012 will start, beyond "When they are ready"? I am guessing sometime in March?

    They seem to have been removed. If you are a member of the Kaspersky forums you can check it out in the beta section over there.

    it really is a great gui, if they could just test it properly before release (so you don't have to wait for cf2) and reduce it's weight by 3 megatonnes and bring back custom install I may give my license another outing!

    Since 2007 that kaspersky made the huge turnover, providing a completely different application than early years, did they have considerable increase in users base?

    i can name more than a few dozen people i know who have switched to something else due to these reasons. so no matter what i see locally and from people i know is that the newer versions people did not like i myself switched from it also.

    I like the minimalistic, lite GUI. I hope KIS 2012 would be lighter and faster than the previous versions.

    The company itself - and AFAIK the amount of users too, has been growing at a pretty fast rate for the last few years, despite KIS' continous drop in quality.
    Because marketing thinks that if the GUI isn't changed, people will think that nothing has changed and the product is outdated. Might actually be true, I haven't asked basic users' opinions about it for a while.
