    Hello,

I am using Windows Vista Home Prenmium SP1 (fully patched).

I am having lots of confusion in selecting the security serivce that both KIS and Windows inbuild features provide. I need a brief explanation, regarding, which one of the below mentioned services is better:

    1. KIS Anti-Phishing or IE 7 phishing filter?
    2. KIS Firewall or Win Firewall?
    3. Should I turn off Windows Defender?

    My suggestions would be.

    1. KIS
    2. KIS
    3. yes please do.

Advising to turn off Defender is a no no, as it does no harm whatsoever and leaving it on won't interfere with any other software.
Kis may be sufficient, but leaving the standard Defender on, doesn't bother at all.

First you should go into the program and go to tools/options and make sure it is not doing a scan at the same time your antivirus program is.

Second you should not turn it off. It at least gives you another defense and it cannot hurt to do this. It has no problems running with other programs.

Won't KIS shut down WD automatically?

i would turn off wd if kis has an antispyware component and you are using that real time.

    1. Why not have both turned on? You'll get the best of both worlds.

    2. I'd suggest using KIS' firewall, but if you're behind a router as well, that adds extra security.

    3. One school of thought is to leave it on, but do not use it in real-time. Run it as an on-demand scanner periodically. Others say disable it altogether. The choice is yours.

You'll get mixed opinions re: WD. The fact of the matter is that WD's on-demand and real time malware detection/removal is sub par. However some like the light HIPS and hosts file protection. There are a host of other freeware solutions out there with more robust protection.
