Thanks Firzen 771. Would it be better to disable Auto protect in NIS or real time in DriveSentry? Which has the better detection?

NIS is meant solely to be an AV, so dont disable it, keep Norton the same, just disable the realtime scanner in DS and DS will just be used for its HIPS.

That's similar to what I experienced while testing Arovax Shield recently. Every time I'd exit Sandboxie, the system would hang on the deletion command and I'd have to reboot. But there never was a pop-up to grant access; the system would always just hang. If I disabled Arovax, Sandboxie exited normally.

Bad news. I got another BSOD with the Sandboxie/Drivesentry combo. The BSOD had to do with ntfl.sys I will have to remove DS until further notice. This was on my WinXP Pro (sp3)/ IE 8 machine.

yep, your right. Strange really. I thought it had to do with the initial clearing of the Sandbox but this time it blue screened when I was just surfing the net. I've tried this version of SBIE (3.34) with Antivir, Avast, threatfire etc.... and never did I get a BSOD. This only happened with DriveSentry. It's a shame because I liked the idea behind DS.

    oh well,

    Ice

Working fine with Avast and AppGuard.

Can DriveSentry be used to block Avira Personal's nag screen in XP home?

Yes -- Click access - add file avnotify.exe to block list.

The BSOD does not happen everyday while using SBIE and DS. It's very intermittent and hard to reproduce. I really like DS but there are a few niggles besides the BSOD that made me change back to Antivir. For some reason Windows security center could not see DS even when I re-built the repository in Windows. Also for some strange reason DS would take about 2 minutes to load on my Vista Home machine. On my XP pro machine I did not have this issue but had the BSOD's. I think DS is getting better but still needs a few fixes. Like I said earlier, I think the idea is great for this product and couple it with a Sandbox type program and your good to go.

Well you inspired me with the above idea (thanks) in combo with GeSWall, now only using GW Pro and DS (just protecting C:\Programs drive, not D:\Data partiotion anymore). I am thinking of buying a Solid State Disk for my desktop also, it is such an improvement on my wife's laptop (she has DefenseWall + ThreatFire with custom rules only and that system is so responsive).

Soon DriveSentry should remove the limitation to only add custom registry protection in Software hives of HKLM/HKU, then I will add all startup resgistry entries also.

    Regards Kees

    Ice,

You still can use edgeguard solo or Appguard solo in combo with CIS. those are also very low cpu programs.

    Happy eastern (I think)

    Regards Kees

    @Katie,

It is awfully quiet, just celebrating holiday or ... ?

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread about this but I noticed that DS leaves some nasty files on my computer after I test it with trojans. I'm wondering if these are active infections. I doubt it but why does it let lots of junk enter my system?

I also noticed that when DS detects certain malware using its signatures, it will auto block the malware and then crash my system...BSOD

    Thanks in advance,
    Toby

Why such a huge compile? I was nearly coronary like ASquared Free's inflated program. What ever happened to streamlining good apps?

No offense, but but IMO, the more bulk, the more likely for issues because it'slike trying to tote a basket of over full apples, one of them are bound to fall.

The install includes the malware database which is why it's so large. They did have a 2mb "cloud" version but you can no longer download it.
