That may be specific to the eicar file, I would test with an actual sample if you have a virtualbox image or similar.

Cracking a software means to defeat or bypass the current copyright/usage restrictions put in place by the manufacturer, so yes, it is illegal.

Nope. thats seems to be the case with kaspersky Free.

I saw this same problem being reported at another forum by a member.
Apparently, Kaspersky Free detects infection only after downloading. Dont know what its so called web guard does.

Well, that's not true. Just tested it with eicar and a real malware. It detects even eicar file when I click on download, not when downloaded. Win7 x 64.

I am sure you are using the addon in browser which gets installed. Remove that and check.
Are you sure that eicar is not downlaoded for some time and then detected. Do you get a windows type popup or a kaspersky popup(the one it has in paid products )

EDIT: I used real malware URL and it got blocked at browser level. Windows type popup came and not the green/red kaspersky pop up.

Still, eicar gets downloaded and then gets detected.

Clear your browser cache and try again. Or are you downloading it over SSL? Make sure the Kaspersky certificate is correctly installed.

Kaspersky Free gave license error. So, they figured out that I changed language to english. I am disappointing that they have English language available but are not releasing it.

I have its license but it did not give any place to enter that.

    Uninstalled.

Feedback: I like the free version a lot. But it does not have HIPS, something Kaspersky is famous for.
Currently, if I were to recommend a free product to someone then I would advise Avira or Sophos.

Kaspersky is fast for removing such loopholes and registry hacks that people find.

Kaspersky Free Anti-Virus (KFA) 16.0.1.445 Offine Installer.

Download each file depends your OS 32 OR 64 bit and install with setup.exe

    I removed http::// prefix ... :p

Language toggle tweak via regedit still works. :)

Kaspersky Patch b is avbl for free version and other Kaspersky products. Only change is that driver was updated to fit with latest Windows Insider releases.

Kaspersky (patch b) is interfering with Steam's functionality. Today prevented me from connecting to Steam. Disabled it for a min and voila. I can't stand such problems. Uninstalled it for a while.

Or maybe Steam was compromised, why not just temporarily disable instead of uninstall?

A real wilders member has to uninstall/install a new AV every week. :D

Because Steam is working fine alongside other AVs. So it's not Steam's fault. Disabling didn't do the trick. I guess some network driver was causing problems.
