I intend to upgrade my XP Home Ed to SP1 / SP2 in few months time.

But the last time I wanted to install SP1 ... the entire system crashed. I have Dell ...

So how did you install it? Do you have to uninstall everything else and leave it bare minimum with the OS and IE only and upgrade it? I plan to do just that. I want to strip all the application away first ... to mimize system crash ...

Any step by step instructions? I followed the Microsoft website on upgrade ... errmm ... it still crashed. My OS come with Dell ... perfectly legit.

    Your advice is highly welcome.

    :)

ok this is what i did--->
back up all the stuff you have save(ie programs/data..ect.
and this was advise from friends and proceed with caution but it worked
    great for me.
I left everything plugged in and then placed the new cd not an upgrade
into the cd drive and then hit the restart button so i coud boot to cd
then a prompt comes up saying about the partion i had(got rid of all of it and started over no fat32 but NTFS, but here is what i was sent and followed
great site with all the info you need.
I am also running a dell and it works great

Go to the IE Internet Options Privacy Tab > Advanced, and check "override automatic cookie handling".
Now set "first party cookies" to 'prompt' , and "third party cookies" to 'block', and not a single cookie will be installed without your express approval.
