    Jimbob1989,

Poking my nose into your business is really not my affair but I am curious...I know about you from no13...and I know you were born in 1989...and you're about the same age as my brother...I wanted to know what you normally do as pastime...Just curious as I am about to become 13 next month...How'd you acquire such knowledge about computers? I too know a decent bit about computers...more on the DirectX/OpenGL APIs and Pixel Shaders/Vertex Shaders, but I also pay attention to security. Therefore, I know a lot about certain AV programs through experience.. Infact, MicroWorld Software (makers of eScan) actually told me to join these forums on their behalf and also to keep testing eScan and giving suggestions....

I was wondering whether you'd also been contacted by any software company? As we all know you know a lot about PCs and AV software... Which grade do you study in? I'm in eight grade (that's the system here)...

Also, can we be friends here in the forums?

    Awaiting your response...

    Best Regards,
    Firecat

I am sure lots of people here would like to be your friend, me included, J***** B** as I call him, is probably busy catching up with his own homework!! :D

    Cheers!

    thanks, Marja.

"It sounds like you could be teaching some of us" - possibly?

Of course I'm gonna use all the info I got! I first started learning this in 2003....Can you tell me the forum to talk about PC hardware?

It began some four years back when I was 'exposed' to the 'wrong' side of the internet (I do not wanna talk about it but I think you'll understand).. In a feeling of disgust, I decided to start concentrating on security. for three years I held NAV, before having a short term with AVG and a 8-month trial with PC-cillin 2002 and 2003. Later, on the other OS (meant for my bro), I got him McAfee V7, and its still strong, I purchased eScan for myself...to find that it was a product with so many annoying little bugs that needed to be fixed. So I started testing.

Along the way, I saw my games wouldn't function without certain hardware features like HW Transform and Lighting. I needed a graphics card for that. I, therefore started out by buying a GeForce4 MX.

As time went, some games apparently required 'Pixel Shaders'. I found out that my GF4MX had only limited functionality Pixel shaders and software vertex shaders. This led me into research on these subjects.

After I purchased my GeForce FX 5900, I began to hear about its poor pixel shader 2.0 (the one in dx9) performance. The reason was inadequate register space considering the color formats it used (Floating point 32bit - FP32 - 32bits for red, green, blue and alpha component of every pixel- total 128bit color). FP16 would cause artefacts. But OpenGL functioned fine. Thereafter began my research on Pixel Shaders, DX9 and OpenGL.

I'll tell you something funny. When I initially contacted MicroWorld to give suggestions and report bugs, they thought I was in engineering 1st year... The general manager of support was considering to employ me. When I told him I was in Std. VIII, I was immediately invited to their offices 'whenever I find time'. So I went on January 13...Its good to know that somebody actually listened to what I said (In India NOBODY listens to kids)about their product. I saw the GM of support, many support personnel, some people from marketing and was told to wait till the CEO came, and he did!! That's when we sat and discussed a few things about the market, improvement of their products etc.

Well, here I am helping out those millions of eScan users by giving suggestions and testing under PC specs which MicroWorld does not have (they got only Intel, mine is AMD64)....and when my friends hear of it, they accuse me of befriending child labour and my teachers call it a 'waste of time'. Sometimes I wonder if its worth it... but I know it is.

Well, thank you for making it this far. Have a nice day sir! Hope I did not bore you.

    Regards,
    Firecat

    Thank you sir!

The only reason I started learning so much about a computer is because the kids here are overly jealous of me. No really, they all keep trying to put me down, offering no or little respect (especially the girls of my class). Generally, only the older people, be it 1 or 25 years older, like me, and I am referring to both guys and girls here. But that's not what I'm here for.

Really, those guys made me very self-critical. When I came to Wilders', I thought of myself as an impatient, arrogant, irritating fellow. But you guys have made me realise the truth. Thanks a lot for that, everyone!

    ''You'll met alot of really wonderful people here;
that you'll be proud to call your friends.''

-What makes you think I'm not proud already? I'm so proud of you guys. And thanks to you, I'm proud of myself, too. These forums rock!

You guys are people I'll be grateful and proud to call friends; ALWAYS. :)

    ''Very, Very!! Impressive!! Young man!!''

-well what can I say but thanks?:)

''Although, I didn't understand any of your "Computer~Language"

    - If you want an easy (but lengthy) explanation of all those I talked about, just whistle!

''Can I be your friend, too??''

    - OF COURSE! I am a very friendly, very talkative guy! Only that the students at school think I'm irritating...sigh, I try to be their friend....what can I do?

They just aren't exposed to computers yet, and I believe they'll start liking me as they grow up, its just that my behaviour is a bit strange for a kid of my age (people say I act like a 14 or 15-year old, which is why older people get along very well with me, I think), I hope they'll get it soon. Please give me your blessings.

''Just be kind to us "Older Folks"
who are still trying to figure all this stuff out!''

-Yes sir!! I'll explain anything you want provided I know about it.

HAVE A NICE DAY SIR!! :D

    Best Regards,
    Firecat

When I'm not on the internet playing games or working the forums, I often swim, go paintballing and can shoot an air pistol pretty well too. Also enjoy a little boxing.

My father is a computer programmer for a large banking corporation, we have always had a computer in the house as far back as I can remember. Plus my father will teach me something I don't understand if I want to. I briefly worked with my Governments Department For Education and skills on a website aimed at teenagers in the United Kingdom.

Unfortunately no, I have not been contacted by any software companies yet. As you know, I am 15 years of age, the education system is a little different here, I am in my last year of compulsory education and plan to stay on into further education.

I'm sure you will find everyone on this forum will be friendly as long as you respect them.

Actually here is where the story turns. I am currently on post watch; although I try to advance my knowledge as far as possible. I still fight back when I feel hard done by, however this is a story I should not realy discuss on the forum.

I am often on the wrong side of the internet, more so in my past.

If any corporate companies or firms are reading this, Wouldn't mind a job.

Some people feel that most normal people would not take an interest in internet security. However they tend to appologise when they get a virus or a hacker on their PC.

    Jimbob,

I wish I had the amount of productivity which you do. Mostly, I sit on the PC. Sometimes I go shopping (groceries etc.), or simply go for a walk around the colony.

You worked for a Government Department? Wow wow wow!

As far as education goes, I wish you all the best. Who knows maybe one day you'll have your own forums, huh? And maybe you'll work at Kaspersky or McAfee?

When I asked whther you'd been contacted, I meant whether you'd suggested anything to any company such that they commended you or something?

''Actually here is where the story turns. I am currently on post watch....''

Actually I didn't get what you said. Why are you on post watch? and what do you mean by 'I still fight when I feel..'? Please don't take it hostile. Just wanted to know.

''Some people feel that most normal people would not take an interest in internet security. However they tend to appologise when they get a virus or a hacker on their PC.''

-Thanks for the encouragement!!! Most of those students don't know what their AV is named and if they do; its usually Norton, without extra tools like AdAwre or Spybot, which makes me believe they are probably infected by at least some type of malware. If only I could get them to run the free eScan tool or AntiDote SuperLite on their PCs, they'd know....

I ran the free eScan on my neighbour's Norton 2003 protected PC, and it found oodles of Adware.

I won't be sticking around much longer. So heres to you; have a nice day and good luck for your future!

    Best Regards,
    Firecat

    Just for a sort time.

Already do. The address can be found in my signature.

Sorry, no, you are mistaken slightly. I am on what is called post watch. It means all post I make have to be accepted my a forum administrator or moderator before they are viewable on the forum. Its because they think I might behave badly.

I have done the same on my friends computers before and found lots of malware.

You make a great addition to the forum.

:D An a child shall lead them! While you an Jimbob are indeed young, you both quiet often display a maturity far beyond your age. Perhaps this is the reason your age group finds you not to their liking, they are still immature and you have surpassed them. I am a grandpa, however I quiet often refer to myself as Peter Pan (I never want to grow up), I try and surround myself with young people, and continue to learn from them, as hopefully they also learn from me. From some of the statements Jimbob has made, he kind of reminds me of myself (some what of a radicial), this trait however can quiet often lead one into difficult situations. Well I have spouted enough. I hope you stick around Wilders, as I enjoy your posts and knowledge. Remember however not all are computer savvy, therefore you need to convey your information in the simplest terms possible.

    Thanks

You are quite exceptional, Firecat, don't let anyone discourage you.. these things are anything but a waste of time. You may find it difficult to live the life of an intellectual, but follow your interests, don't let anyone else tell you what's best for your future, and don't be afraid to go your own way. You're clearly going to go far in life :)

For hardware information, you should look up study material for the A+ certification.. I bet you'd find a lot of information there that you would like.

    wildman,

Thanks a lot. And yes, I will try to make my explanations as simple as possible. There are people who know a lot more than me, so there is no way I'd say I know a lot. I'd at the max say I'm 'decent' when it comes to PC knowledge.

    You have a great day!

    Notok,

Thanks a lot. I just realised the same today. For hardware info, I don't think I'll go that deep yet...I'll continue on researching graphics APIs and hardware exploitation....

May you win a lottery and win every AV product in the world today! ;)

    BeetleBoss,

I am beginning to like you more and more...you sure brighten up these forums like nobody has. Till now, I was so serious in everything, till I realised the lighter side of it. I don't think I'll quite forget you even if you leave these forums or remain inactive for years...you've got a real sense of humour., and I'm NOT negatively speaking.

    ''Sure thing!!''

    -Thanks!!!

''because they know BJ......and they know me!!''

    -Oh wow!

    ''Have you seen BJ?''

-Not till you showed me, but is he angry right now? Am I going to face hell in all its fury (just joking)?

''I believe that speaks for itself!''

    -I guess?

''I believe those speak for themselves too.
You see, my young friend, when you met "Miss Right"~
You too, will know Who the Boss is.''

-I guess I will. (no hostility intended please)

I checked out the forum...those guys are nice. This forum rocks!!!

And may you have the greatest day of your life and career (if any since I'm not sure whether you work or not) today!

You see, this forum and my PC is the only thing holding me together from how I feel whenever I'm at school as I feel I'm alienated from the crowd.... Sigh, I'm just so different! If I don't stick around I'll probably do something very stupid.

By the way, how do you make your posts look so good (All those great emoticons, the writings etc.)

Wishing you a good life always!

    Best Regards,
    Firecat
