No need to repeat some empty MS phrases over and over again.
But there must be something hard to prevent, because of all these botnets, rogues etc.
Do you think that's all because of third-party two-way firewall users?

    I agree. ;)

    Cheers

LOL, it almost seems as though this is turning into a debate or sarcasm-fest on Win 7/Vista fw's effectiveness - or lack thereof - at preventing malware. It's not meant to prevent malware, only to control comms of network traffic, inbound and outbound, including those of trusted processes like svchost Win update service, amongst others. Prevention of malware is easily prevented mostly using common sense, whatever's built into the O/S, including linux, and maybe, just maybe and only if needed, some other 3rd party apps such as av, HIPS, sanboxing, virtualization.

Do realize, btw, if you don't have a rule specified for the two-way setup in Win 7/Vista, the process attempting outbound won't get through ;)

For obvious reasons, this discussion won't lead to any further results. Lightweighted Windows firewall is attractive to some gamers and home users with a smart brain who knows not to click on the wrong links or surf on malicious sites. HIPS (incl. firewall) is a good feature for those who're really careful of their privacy/documents etc and don't want to get compromised.

Do you know what I am saying, yo?
