Is Sygate personal firewall(free) still recommended as a good/reliable firewall?

It hasn't been updated since 2005, so I don't know if it is outdated or would still offer solid protection.

I am using Win XP SP2.

Here there are a bunch of complaints from CNET users (malware, nagware, viruses, leak test failure):

Someone also said it can fail to start up? (which is unacceptable).

Anyone know if these comments are nonsense and that this FW would still offer SOLID reliable inbound/outbound protection?

    Thank you in advance!
