is it safe to update ssd firmware?

    Hi

    is it safe to update ssd firmware ?
    for example about samsung 840 evo i noticed there is a new firmware EXT0BB6Q
    my drive was shipped with EXT0BB0Q

    i guess the changes are
    did you update it?
    how did you update it with Magician software or booting with the ido?

    Updating the SSD firmware is generally fine but you should have a backup of your data regardless.

    I don't have an SSD, but I would go for updating via the ISO. That way the update will run without any running OS/processes.

    I've updated it few times with no problems. Once I had to restore an OS image so making image before update would be wise.

    I updated my Crucial M500 240gb SSD and after the firmware update i had a bad sector :(

    There was none to start with the old firmware.

    Maybe the new firmware has a different way of detecting bad sectors or did the firmware use up part of the SSD?
    I dont know but it was annoying.
