    Just curious.

I was bored with Sam's "robotic" voice and some of it's wordings could be hard to understand.

Have you tried changing it's default pc text to speech voice, and add some other voices?

Is it safe installing other voices found on the net? Like Cepstral Text to Speech?

    What can you recommend?

But as of now I could not access the speech section on the control panel. I was wondering what have I "touch" in the windows services why I could not access this part.

If you get the download from reputable source then it should be safe. Can you explain what happens when you try to access it?

Even if I go to control panel I couldn't access the setting configuration for changing the default Sam's voice. I have already installed a voice program from cepstral.com but still I couldn't use it. And also, I could not open the voice program of cepstral. :doubt:

Clicking the speech icon in the control panel... it didn't respond, it didn't open.

Where's the command prompt to access the pc voice, so we could change it to something more pleasant to hear?

    Cepstral voices:

    -hxxp://cepstral.com/demos/-

These are just demos you have to purchase them for full functionality.

    Help from microsoft:

Read the page for more info...

I am nearly blind and use the voice features in the Opera browser...

It doesn't sound as bad as Mike or Sam, if you have Vista you can try Anna.

Microsoft streets and maps has Anna for XP in the 2010 version.

It also installs some necessary updates.

Do a search on "TTS" or "text to speech".

That is the best I can do for you without knowing the operating system and the memory installed.

It sounds like some necessary files are missing, XP has had several updates to the speech engine.

Yes adding or replacing voices is safe as long as you get them from a valid source.

There are cracked versions out there that are unsafe, stay away from torrent and file-sharing sites.
