I have XP Pro as a VirtualBox guest in a Ubuntu 10.4 host.

I launched VirtualBox XP into primary snapshot as usual - all was fine. I then elected to boot into the secondary snapshot.

The virtual XP closed down as usual and then entered the First Defence boot screen as expected, unfortunately it won't move from there. As you know, as it's a pre-elected snapshot (by that I mean while in Primary snapshot, I already told First Defence what I wanted), there is no f1 option that would allow me to return to the primary snapshot.

At one point I did see a Cache Full error message. I haven't seen it since, nor do I know what it means.

Is that game over for this VM, or is there a way back/forward from here?

Uninstall FD-ISR (program only option), reboot and then reinstall it again.

The thing is, I can't get past the FD-ISR bootup screen in order to access the OS.

All I can seem to do is power on the virtual machine, which is at the point of which the First Defence bootup screen appears, and then no further movement.

Hmm, then use the windows cd to fix the partition's boot sector. Then you uninstall reinstall FD-ISR.

Check here on how to do it.
The command that you are interested in is the " fixboot" command:
    fixboot drive name:
