This is about email addresses assigned by an ISP.

I have an email address that also shows my first and last name when I send an email. (Outlook Express, Windows XP)

I never reply to spam. I don't leave my email address in public view on the internet.

Not long ago, I received an email in which I was addressed by FIRST NAME ! This has NEVER happened before. I get lots of spam, sometimes I'm addressed by my email address, but never by my name.

It was some kind of spam/scam email. I decided to check it out because I was addressed by my first name. Downloaded some stuff, but when I noticed that the EULA (or whatever) mentioned monitoring my network I just installed a clean image.

Perhaps some information was stolen/shared/leaked, I don't know.

Is it possible to capture the name associated with an email address ? If so, how, and what can be done about it ?
