is it a firewall?

I have just read about this great one and the worst about ZASS. Is it AD working like a firewall as a part of its functions? The os is windows 2003 server.

Appdefend isn't a full firewall. It allows you to control outbound connections to the network, but not inbound.

 

It is just a hips software like PG and SSM. So it can be considered as one of security complements to protect the computer.

Ghost Security also have another product called Ghostwall (which is free) that is a simple and effective rules based firewall

Over time it would be reasonable to expect that AD's firewalling capabilities will become at least a little more feature rich, but its not too bad a solution having both AD and GW to control network access considering that their resource consumption is relatively low

There are quite a few things you might want to consider before choosing a firewall for a server.

There is also a firewall section at Wilders that you could post in, and it could be helpful if you said a little about what the server is going to be used for, if it will be directly exposed to the Internet, or behind another (corporate) firewall etc
