just wonder is AVP 3.5 still useful now, say on XP. i think it is a neat on-demand scanner.

I think it has outlived its usefulness because:

    1) No extended database support
    2) New heuristic tweaks work only on KAV 4.5 and above (I am not talking about behaviour blocker)
    3) It was rumoured that KAV 5 had better detection of stealthed trojans
    4) It is possible unpack support is poorer compared to KAV 5/6

It was also a very lightweight AV, only 1 process taking up 2MB VM.

AVP 3.5 was not originally coded and optimized for Win XP, although I had no problems with the "Swiss" version. Apart from the points that Firecat lists, it is not as good with cleaning/disinfecting malware as later versions.

No, only on W98, but you would be a lot better served with 6.0 if you just want an on-demand scanner (or even the free online scanner), you can disable virtually everything when you install 6.0.

It does support extended databases, however, you have to manually change the url in the updater settings :)
