    As title.

If a removable drive has autorun.inf in it's root folder wanting to autorun virus.exe, and I plug it in, will it start running virus.exe as soon as I do it, or has this been disabled?

Does anyone have personal experiences, tried it themself?

    Windows 7

    Thanks

The default is to ask if one wants to run/open the file and a list of choices comes up in a box.

Autorun viruses will not run in windows 7, neither spontaneous, nor when you click it.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

So this means that if I have autorun.inf file on my flash drive that wants to run virus.exe - I am safe to plug it in using Windows 7?

Has anyone personally tried this? As you can probably understand this is very important. I do not want to get infected. Thanks

If no one has tinkered with the settings, and they are as safe as default (or safer) you should be fine. If anyone else has touched the PC, and you can't verify the setting first, then no, you can't be sure.

In Windows 7 the only autoplay.exe commands that are supported on a flash drive are the "icon" and "label" properties. I tried for a while last week to get an autorun to start up for someone that wanted to distribute some videos on flash drives and was unable to get them to run automatically.

    Alright. Thanks guys.

    Autorun is solved.

What else do I need to think about or do besides autorun?
