    Iolo has decided to drop out of the firewall area and has released Iolo Firewall free. The bad thing about it though is that all support drops the end of this year, but for those of you who like to play around with firewalls can use it to test around now for free :D

    Looks pretty. Has anyone ever tested this properly? Shame there isn't a 64bit version.

    Not sure if the latest version behaves as like the one tested by Stem in this thread, but a heads up just in case :ninja:

    When you say "light weight" do you mean low in calories like lite beer? :)

    Anyone remember what engine this was based on? I thought in the past it was based upon outpost but I may be wrong.

    @Ibrad

    Thanks for the info, i wasn't aware of it until now. Looks quite comprehensive, and fairly easy to configure etc :thumb:

    @sg09

    Thanks for the screenies :thumb:

    Could do with some serious testing to prove it's worth, or not ? For eg

    Surely I can, but isn't that testing suites inspect proactive defence? I mean it is a basic firewall and will surely fail in such tests. Moreover it is a silent firewall by default.
    btw, it has already been tested before at Matousec and failed as usual.

    That's too for proactive defense...:rolleyes: Most basic firewalls score less... But I willl test that... Is there any test suite that check only basic requirements of firewalls? I mean GRC shields up type?

    As per your sceenshots it was showing version 1.6.1 but as per Iolo the final version was 1.5.2.7 which was known to work on 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, and Vista...:rolleyes:

    May be you are right, because latest version of Iolo System Mechanic Pro which supports Windows 7 also includes iolo firewall...So i guess the version 1.6.1 supports Windows 7 too...But not sure !!

    I also installed it on a virtual machine for a quick look. It does seem to be rather light on the CPU but 60MB of memory for just a firewall? Seems pretty high to me. While it's true that most computers have a reasonable amount of RAM 60MB still seems high.
