I totally agree with you. This thread became too long and it's close to impossible to find any information in it. I'll work on the forum.

    Kit1cat,

As TheRollbackFrog mentioned (thanks for testing it Froggie!) it's quite possible. In theory you can even do a restore from say a Windows XP and after restore you'll have a Win 7 :)

If you don't have any OS then feel free to use the recovery media.

    carfal,

Thank you for your help! For any question regarding RollbackRX and AXTM operation I rely on you and Froggie, as the experts. Thanks!

I think I asked the question in a confusing way. Let me rephrase it. When using RBRx I have to uninstall it before doing defrags and making images with one of my imaging apps. When I'm done I reinstall RBRx. Since AX64 is an imaging app, should I uninstall RBRx before doing an AX64 image, and then reinstall RBRx when I finish? Thanks for your help! :)

For my part I think it will be more useful as an imaging program due to the way I use the computer but that is not because of the free option you are contemplating.

Do you have a price point you would like divulge at this moment?

Maybe you could offer a basic free imaging version. A modest fee for a more complete imaging version, then the full one with all bells and whistles. At the end of the day you do have to get some recompense for all this work.

Just a few thoughts for you

Ok thanks - understand that now. I don't like combining all my partitions into one image so I guess the way it works now suits me.

OK thank you, I'll think about it. Though it will be just another imaging software that are plenty on the market nowadays.

    Hi PCFAN2014,

Thank you for your kind comment! I think we'll release the commercial version sometime next week. All beta-testers will receive free licenses. Just send me a PM (or email) after the production release is out, and I'll send 100% discount coupon to you.

    Isso,

Will the upcoming 'final' release include the Intel RST fix (for the recovery media)? ...if not, how much longer do you anticipate for that fix?

Cruise has already voiced a need for this and I am in the 'same boat' - I have been testing the last few beta versions and the current one seems to be working 'as advertised' for me, but if the system won't boot.... :doubt:

Isso, As you may know, RBRx has a feature at bootup where if you can't boot or have a problem, you can click the Home button on your keyboard before the RB progress bar completes, and you can go to another snapshot to boot like the problem never happened. If you could implement a feature like this AX64 would be unmatchable. What are your thoughts on something like that?

I would like for AX64 to leave the MBR alone. I really don't like software making changes to it. I think the Recovery Media can accomplish the same thing without having to touch the MBR.

    Hi Isso,

I am yet another user with the Intel RST RAID setup. I've been following this thread with great interest, but I'm holding-off on AX64 because (from what Cruise and The Shadow are saying) it's boot media does not work with Intel RST configurations! :doubt:

If that is correct, in the event of a non-bootable system due to a fatal disk error (and assuming the Win7 install disk cannot repair the error) is there a work-around to recover an AX64 image?

    The Shadow,

Sorry, that issue won't be fixed in the first release. I expect it to be fixed in about a month. By the way if you haven't tested the Recovery media, please create it, and try to boot - because it is supposed to be working, and I know users with RST for whom this feature works just fine, so only some of the machines with RST are affected.

Wendi, you can check the same too - it will take you just a minute to find out. Please also share your results. Thank you!

    twl845,

There were numerous requests for this feature, and we actually almost have it ready - just need to test it. You can expect to see it in one of the upcoming versions.

Hmm, where did you get the idea that AXTM makes changes to MBR? It doesn't.

EDIT: Oh I think I know what you mean - do you think that implementing twl845 suggestion to restore at boot will affect MBR? If so - don't worry. It won't make any changes to MBR.

    Hi Isso,

Hehe, yeah I know it doesn't.

But yes, I was referring to twl845's suggestion. When I used Rollback RX I remember it had to modify the MBR to be able to load it's Recovery Console before the OS. If same thing (or similiar) could be accomplished without manipulating the MBR, then I'm totally down for it. :thumb:

don't take it wrong please but I think you need to give free licenses for selected testers only or other wise you are going to loose significant amount of revenue. I mean the software is still new and not much known so I guess the initial customers will be from these forums and if most of them get free licenses then how you are going to get revenue.

It's just my thinking, others might disagree with it.

Aigle... I believe Isso believes that the BETA test group is so small in terms of needed revenue, that the giveaway is well worth it in terms of monies spent. He has testers contacting him for those DISCOUNT coupons... like Santa, he knows who's been "naughty or nice." :D

And I believe there are many of us who will not take him up on the offer... I don't speak for everyone but many of us believe this has been a genuine software development effort which has been the most INCLUSIVE that we've ever seen. As a result of this "inclusivity," he and his team have produced a wonderful product that fits perfectly in our computer environment. As a result, many of us have no problem purchasing the offered license at retail value when it's available and leaving the so called DISCOUNT COUPON on the floor.

BUT... please remember, as the "unofishul" VP of PR, those coupons may be taking some serious food out of my babies mouth :D Actually those "babies" are long grown with fams of their own... Isso's developers need the dough a lot more than I do... ;)

The "merging halted at 86.7%" issue happened again. Here's the screenshot of the AXTM directory:

Oh, I forgot about VP Froggie and his babies, my bad... I think I know what to do - all beta testers first contact Froggie, and if he approves the deal, the coupon will be sent out :D

Joking aside - Aigle, I appreciate your concerns. However:

    - I think the beta-testing work done by Wilders members is worth more than those licenses
    - I promised all beta testers free licenses. I don't want to differentiate between them. Obviously some of them helped a lot more, so maybe later I can offer more rewards to those people. But for now free licenses is all I can offer.
    - From the traffic that is coming from Wilders, and the number of downloads I have some approximate idea about how many people are testing the product. They aren't too many, and I think that only a fraction of them would actually buy the program.
    - By offering the program for free I'm getting a "core" group of users who will hopefully later help me to promote the program.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks again for your concerns.

    Zero3K,

Could you please get Process Explorer from Microsoft, open it, select the AXTMApp.exe process (while it's halted on merge) and select Create Dump->Full. Then please send that file to me. Thank you.
Oh, if that's Windows 7 - you can do the same with Task manager too.

I should've read that earlier, its too late now since I exited and re ran the program. Since it happened twice already, I think it'll happen again. I'll send you the full dump as an archive when it does.
