Exactly what do you mean with "stay away"? From Comodo?
Because I'm using both (just recently moved to CIS 8, & haven't got the chance to play with AX64 since).
And what mess did Kaspersky do? Is it still doing it?

What I meant by stay away, is just that, don't use it it. To read about the kaspersky mess google Kaspersky chkdsk dslreports and you can read the thread. Basically they were using some feature of NTFS, to indicate the file has been scanned so as to not rescan it. It rasised havoc with chkdsk. I think they changed what they were doing. I was testing then (KAV 6) and I saw the impact myself.

Whoaa ... ADS, Alternate Data Streams = use with caution. I purchased an old version of Kaspersky anti-Virus many years ago that used ADS; it hosed my system and even my beloved Raxco FirstDefense could not recover me.

Kaspersky VERY quickly released a new version of their AV because so many people got hosed. I even gave my license away to someone else who wanted to play with K.

MY BEST GUESS IS THIS: if you have yourself protected by a MIRROR IMAGING program you should be ok because it recovers you sector-by-sector. FirstDefense was not a mirror imaging program so could not save me. ADS's affect the files and folders but would not affect a sector copying program, at least I believe that is the case but must admit, not sure.

I personally would avoid ANY program that uses ADS to help it do its stuff. There are programs out there, or at least there used to be, that can clean your system of ADS (ADS were not originally created by the bad guys but the good guys). It was one of those ADS removal programs that saved my system many years ago and got me back on my feet. It was a former Wilders mod that led me to one of those programs and saved me, thanks to him forever.

I read through the thread, or at least most of it, and couldn't find any complete conclusions as to what exactly caused the issue, but I saw some people saying they implemented it wrong or something like that? Either way the issue should replicate whenever running chkdsk? I tried it with CIS 8 and didn't have any issues with it, no errors and it completed as expected. That's not to say it won't cause any issues in other places though, Personally I'd like to see the feature be optional. Very sorry for the off-topic.

I've been using CIS 8 beta and release while also using AX64, I haven't noticed any issues with it so far but that doesn't mean they couldn't potentially exist, hopefully they'll play nicely together.

    Hi SanyaIV

Let me say this. You've been warned, and if it works fine, but..... I wouldn't take the chance myself. You just don't know when it will byte you.

Yes indeed Peter, although I've been using CIS for a long while and I really love the HIPS part of it, the main reason I'm using it is because it's free, I don't like to pay for X years. I also use AX64 mainly for convenience, in case everything would go to **possibly offensive word removed**, it wouldn't be THAT much of a problem for me since no important data would be lost (because I don't have any important data really) and it would simply mean hours and hours of setting everything up again, which isn't the worst thing in the world, just time consuming.
With the above in mind, I'm ready to take the risk.

I tested the restore of this software to a SSD. I created a USB recovery which restored the backup but with strangeness.

The backup was small 22GB and it took long time to restore 30-40 mins. It started off with 5 mins pause then 1.8% of restore then 2 min pause. It put on 3-4% at a time then a 3 min pause all the way to 54% stop and start. When at 54% it restored a bigger percentage before a 3 min pause. When i clicked cancel several times it didn't cancel but instead went to 100% restore without stop and start pause. Clicking the cancel made it stop pausing.

I thought the slowness might be SSD realignment but no.

I'm using WIN 8.1 Ver.1 worked except could not do a hot restore. Ver. 2 has never worked because it will not recognize the (C:) ( 150gb) to do a restore.(attachment). Support has told me it would be fixed. As of 548 it has not. Anyone have any ideas? Just about going to give up on this. Thanks

Hi JDeere, that's the very same problem I have been having with ver. 2, below is a link for a beta version which worked for me.

I am puzzled. Assuming C is your operating system drive, c: shouldn't be c as an available source of data. Restore wouldn't work.

The table shows avaiable drives to restore to, not available sources of data. In my case, data is on my drive g, but c is not available as a drive to restore to.

Interesting, I've never actually seen that screen. It just seems to know to restore to c: Hmm, I've never actually imaged any other drive then c: though

I had a similar (but not exactly the same) problem. Mine would pause for exactly 1 minute. Just in case it might help, my solution was this:

It only seems to appear when the c drive is not avaiable to restore data to.

Thanks for all your input. This is another screen that I get when I select to restore. Its asking what drive I want to restore to, but the system C: is not listed. I store the AX64 files on J: which is external. Support told me they knew what it was and would fix with the new release, which it has not. That was almost a month ago. Support just seems to disappear. Thanks Kit1cat for the link.

Sure does. I forget the criteria but it was explained by Way in the v2 announcement (hourlys for a day, dailys for a month, monthlys for a year, etc... something like that)

    Pete... this from post #7676...

IV. New merging and purging schedule

Following a similar schedule to Apple's own backup solution, AX64 Time Machine now keeps: hourly backups for the past 24 hours, daily backups for the past month, and weekly backups until your backup drive is full.

Yeah, I know, it says that right in the program, except I just see the list of hourly's building up with no sign of anything being merged. Does the machine have to be on all night?

Hello Again, This is the screen that most of you apparently get when doing a restore with AX64 ver.2. I found if I opened a folder of old ver.1 backups it would work. The default Backup folder of ver.2 doesn't work. Anyone run into this. I haven't tried backing up using ver. 2 to the ver. 1 folder. Thanks

Yes, ver 1 backups worked for me with ver 2. Did you try the beta in the link I supplied?

According to the AX64 "news" page the official release version is now 548. Is this the same as the 548 beta that had some serious problems or have they fixed them all and just released it as the same build number?
