I have been following this thread almost since its inception and have used both v1 and v2. Recently someone here mentioned ShadowProtect/ImageManager and I would like to draw upon the expertise of this group to help me decide between the two programs.

Clearly TM is much easier to set up and use, and is far less expensive. But what other advantages (apart from this excellent users forum) does it have over ShadowProtect/ImageManager for a user like me (XP Pro 32bit, multipartition system disk, local storage). Let me point out that there is no warm restore in XP and every restore of a system partition snapshot is a cold restore that requires rebooting from a rescue CD.

Yes that sort of strategy works well. But arguably you could achieve a similar result by using any number of alternative imaging products, which would allow you to schedule the whole thing and therefore not require any manual intervention.

Maybe, but I doubt they would give me a back up in less then a minute and a hot restore in a couple of minutes. I used Rollback for a number of years, but I like the way TM can store snapshots on another drive. I am a bit old fashion and prefer to do things manually.

Fair point - though some of them will do the backup part as quick as TM (e.g. EaseUS). For me the quick restores become less desirable if they depend on daily intervention.

Every one to their own, I use EaseUS as my second back up, very good but not as fast as TM. Have you ever tried EaseUS snapshot option? I was put off because it turns trim off. (I use a ssd drive)

I don't know if this is a problem or not. I tried canceling a restore from the boot option (forgot to uncheck full restore or whatever it's called to do a warm restore). I could not cancel or stop the restore process in any way though I was only 5% or so into the process. There's no point in having a cancel button if it can't be canceled.

I'm not sure why the button doesn't work... BUT, if you cancelled any kind of restore from the BOOT option, at that point the only option available to you to do a successful restore would be the FULL option. A partial restore will, most likely leave your system in an undefined state (like a failed HOT restore)... definitely a risk not worth moving forward with.

Thanks. I wondered how a restore could be stopped without some harm, but figured since the button was there possibly they figured out a safe way to do it.

Not wanting to veer from TM, but I don't think the snapshot option is there anymore (turning trim off doesn't sound good!). Looks like an excellent free True Image replacement though - hopefully TM will continue to improve and become the go-to snapshot solution.

Sorry for interrupting but, this morn around 8.30 I purchased a copy of TM ver 2 used PayPal sent $17.50 in and printed all of agreement. Haven't heard a word from the folks down under. Sent Nathan a request for a key, no reply nothing from them. Are they down today, or anyone know what might be wrong.

Just an FYI....I ordered yesterday afternoon/evening via PayPal. I would guess that less than an hour later, I got an email and my license key. So, there were no apparent glitches yesterday.

If and when you receive your ORDER RECEIPT, your REGISTRATION CODE will be in small print under the 1st item (Time Machine v2 Single License) on the receipt.

Maybe AUSTRALIA has a LABOR DAY :isay:

It appers, at least in the latest version, that the snapshot option is only available in the paid versions. Any way back to TM.

No, it's not present even in the paid version (Home). I have not tried the Workstation version though.

I remember shortly after the takeover of AX64 there was a promise that the original version would be completed and a final version produced. Did that promise ever get fulfilled?.....I have no interest in V2 whatsoever, the new features serve no purpose to me, for me it just bloat....I'm using 1.4.1.24.

Thanks, looks like they need to update their web site.

"Note: This feature is only available in Home Edition, and Workstation Edition. If you want to test it, please upgrade to corresponding paid version."

I would say no, the last version was 1.4.1.48 a beta, which I have been using for about 6 months.

Does anybody know where the variations of V1 might be available for download? The most recent version I've got is 1.4.0.19 but would like to try the slighter newer versions. I couldn't find them at /download or /beta etc. Not sure if support has effectively ended for V1 or not.

The link for version 1.4.1.48 appears in post #6998, but the link is not working.

When the company switched to their new website a week ago, all the old V1 download links were purged.

Version 1.4.1.24 was the last stable V1 version. After this version two more beta versions were published. Version 1.4.1.48 was the latest one, and it is generally considered very stable and better than 1.4.1.24.

If you are under Win7, you should also consider version 1.3.7. This is probably the last version which is almost 100% Isso and his team...

I uploaded these three versions here:

Thank you manolito for the upload :) Much appreciated.

This will be helpful to those who decide to stay with V1
but no longer can access those files. Thanks again!

Thanks very much to you (and another forum member via pm) for doing this. Very useful and good to know the differences between the versions.
