Installed Ubuntu 11.10 - Seems somewhat blurry

    Everything looks a bit blurry like icons etc. I fixed my other issues.

    Also, is there any way to make the unity icons on the bar smaller?

    The only way I know to make the launcher icons smaller is to install CCSM (Compiz Configuration Settings Manager). It is not present by default.
    Then, under "Desktop", ensure that the "Ubuntu Unity Plugin" is checked and then look for settings in the Experimental tab. The lowest setting is 32.

    It's advisable not to fiddle with settings that aren't related to the Ubuntu Unity Plugin.
