    This is strange.
I had a good internet connection on my old computer in the basement (Win XP, Win firewall, Firefox, Sandboxie, SAS, etc). I removed an old outdated/expired version of NOD32 and installed Avira, and now cannot connect to the internet. The modem and all connections are fine. I made no other changes.

I tried shutting down Avira and it made no difference.

Any idea what might cause this?

Edit: I may have found the issue: apparently uninstalling NOD32 V2.7 might goof up the winsock thingy. I will try to repair it and see what happens....

Problem was probably uninstalling NOD, not installing Avira!

Try WinSock XP Fix or ALTERNATIVELY (courtesy of Blackspear) you can do the following:

    Click on Start
    Click on Run
    Type in cmd
    Click on OK
    Type in netsh winsock reset
(Please note there are spaces between the netsh and winsock and reset)

    Press ENTER
    Restart your computer.

Is that the way how NOD "rewards your loyalty" to their products? :D

    Problem solved, thanks a bunch!

    It was the winsock thing.

Though I still like NOD32, Avira is working nicely...
