Thanks, that's really interesting. I didn't know this was possible :)

Although, I think if we're able to know what sectors are used then we can do that with dd as well.

Hi, sorry that it took so long for me to answer, I've been away on a trip the past few days.

It's been a little more than 2 years since I felt at home with Parabola and decided to use it on a regular basis. I wrote a little about my experience then. (Some things have changed now, I have a new laptop and a more complex, fully encrypted disk setup. Power-down time is still about 3 seconds, but boot-up time is more than 10 seconds. I think it took 3-5 seconds to boot into console without the desktop environment. A little overexited then….haha)

Like @amarildojr wrote, the differences aren't that big, so it is more of an expression of an attitude, supporting the ideas and philosophy that's behind the project. I am also supporting the free software movement including Libreboot. With Libreboot you have to use one of the Gnu/Linux distributions. It is a work in progress but it works very well.

I still do have and use other distros occasionally and for specific purposes like live sports (e.g. there is pipelight as a replacement for Microsoft Silverlight [which is still widespread among streaming services] but it uses Microsoft Fonts that I think cannot be replaced – unusable.) or virtualization (Qubes OS).

You can take a look at these websites, they offer lot's of material you might be interested in:
