If a software (say, a browser) is available in both an install version and a portable version, what (if any) are the advantages of using the install version?

It's not always the case, but installer version usually integrates to the system better. But that also means the installer version has higher chance to screw up the system. The portable version is arguably more advantageous for most people than the installer version.

The advantage of an install version is that it auto updates and you can make it your default browser
