    For Ubuntu there is this ppa. I haven't tried it yet, though.

    In theory if you have plenty of CPU but not much RAM and already hitting the swap significantly it could make a difference :)

    I don't use it on my mobile as it only has a weak CPU or else I would try it out.

    Yep, more CPU intensive but it makes better use of RAM. For me I have no need for it on my computer.
