the scan in safe mode found this:

    Warning, Virus name= Found Adware.CoolWebSearch.

    Path to file: HKLM\Software\Classes\Softomate.IEToolbar

But "HKLM\Software\Classes\Softomate.IEToolbar" I could not find in the registry.

    What is HKLM.

Resident Shield off did nothing to help.

Just to check - have you run MBAM in safe mode, or only AVG?

Yes MBAM & AVG scan in safe mode with no results BUT:-

I did an XP Repair & it seems to have cleared it, opens emails & all functions work.

The lL/Hand line menu though changed a bit its appearance but all work.

Thanks for your patience, if I had any sence I would have done initially but, R is a bit drastick key to click.

So, we meet again Mr Nichos...

I read that thread you linked: Don't you just hate it when people say 'Just don't use that software' when you have a problem!

I think AOL is a waste of time too, but if you want to use it for the reasons you gave then that's fine with me!

Anyway, some possible leads here and a big list of search results for that error you're getting here - many of which do seem directly related to the AOL software, despite what AOL told you!

    Thanx for this AOL bit,

the second link among a lot of things made me try & delete the "Data Execution Prevention" & the AOL 9.5 prog installed from the net & working OK.

Trust the old AOL though !, the only thing I need "itemised telphone bills" are not showing & they are trying to fix the problem.

I went back though & Turned on thid DEP thing.

PS. EDIT I am sending this from within AOL which I never use usually.
