If running only 2 security programs real-time, which combination would you choose?

Sandboxie Paid and Avast 5 Free are my only true security programs. I've never had an issue yet.

Why just two?

I fully undertand the need to not load up with unnecessary and redundant apps, but what I'm asking is, what would be wrong with using a 3rd program if you felt that its addition was a bonafide complement, and not just satisfying some inner urge to pour on the protection?

You mentioned SBIE and OA.
I love that combo.
And then putting Prevx with it (realtime minus SOL which can actually be left out of the installation) just seems to round out my protection.

None of the three step on each other, they all start up easily together, there are no excessive pop ups, and (here's the subjective part) I feel very safe having them onboard.

Edit in: Keep in mind (in case you weren't aware), the HIPS is identical in OA Free and Premium.

It might be an arbitrary limit. Since I am relatively new to Windows, I am trying different things to see what works. But after using Sandboxie for a while and seeing what it is doing, and learning safe computing practices and using some powerful on-demand programs, to tell you the truth it seems like the right second, real-time program should be more than enough. I could be wrong, but if I am there's always the system image to bail me out, and I will definitely rethink things.

 

Please undertand, the reason I ask, "Why just two?", is not because I take exception to your plan, but because I want to question and examine my own plan!

Yes, I'm using Windows 7 x64. But I was wondering in general about how two different types of programs can be put together to provide the broadest range of security.

 

Comodo D+ and Comodo Firewall (Which is 1 program, but 2 modules) + EAM (Which includes Mamutu).

I don't see any conflicts in that setup

 

Returnil System Safe 2011 + Windows Firewall

I always keep it simple,ALWAYS!

 

That's an easy one. AppGuard, and Shadow Defender. They are a perfect combination, and you would have about as good a chance as wining the powerball as getting infected!

At a glance it appears that you don't entirely trust Prevx with the way you make use of Avira.

 

Lots of people uses tons of On Demand scanners here
So why trust in 1 source

 

I wasn't even aware that Prevx/SOL 3.0.x had a behavior blocker? AFAIK, version 4 will something like that to provide offline protection, but version 3 does not have anything resembling a behavior blocker

I never use 2 AV's at the same time (Not even On-Demand).
Usually it's 1 real time and that's all (Of course backed up by HIPS/BB and Firewall)
