    If running only 2 security programs real-time, what would you choose?

    I've been using Sandboxie and WinPatrol Plus together for quite a while, but last week I had a temporary issue with SB, so I loaded Prevex SOL with Private Firewall. I think those two made for a powerful defense. That got me wondering, which two-program combinations work well together?

    Edit: To be a little clearer, the question isn't so much to find programs for my own use, but more in general about how to think about security, the ways two different types of programs can be put together to provide the broadest security coverage.

    Avast! and SpyShelter!

    I own the paid version of Sandboxie, but I hardly use it. Also, I pay $70 annually for a VPN, but again I hardly use it.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

    Why not run only one program? I am only using ESET Smart Security on Windows 7 64-bit, never have been infected. You only need more than one security application if you don't have pc and internet knowledge.

    Prevx 3.0 with SafeOnline on Windows 7 64-bit is strong, and really light and agile.

    Of the ones you mention I'd use Sandboxie along with Privatefirewall.
    (You can use WinPatrol execuatable if you choose to instead of the "active" version.)

    You may also wish to look into Online Armor which not only performs the functions of a firewall and HIPS like Privatefirewall but also has excellent protection from "loggers".

    I am very happy with the setup in my signature in case that is of any help with ideas.

    Depends what your needs are in terms of preventing any potential data loss.

    Prevx SOL has compatibility issues with Sandboxie. (A step must be taken to allow them to work together which in effect somewhat weakens the integrity of Sandboxie's protection.)

    You can, however, use SOL outside of the Sandbox (but I was reluctant to entrust my secure browsing, even with SOL, to an unsandboxed environment. And I was likewise unwilling to weaken Sandboxiie's protection.)

    Since Online Armor works great with Sandboxie and effectively protects against unwanted logging, it provides a great solution imho. (YMMV.)

    I also think that Privatefirewall is a great product but not quite as robust or feature rich as OA.

    DefenseWall and Sandboxie. Two of the best programs with the very best developers.

    There are so many that would work well together.

    Microsoft Security Essentials and geswall/sandboxie/bufferzone/online armor, or similar. MSE seems pretty good, and with any one of the 4 other programs provides solid defense. My personal favorites, bufferzone and geswall.

    Are you comparing OA free with Private firewall free or OA premium with Private firewall which is free. Kind of an unfair comparison with OA premium is it not ? My pick is Sandboxie and Private firewall here.

    I've used OA (both free and paid) for several years and Privatefirewall for several months.

    I have a great deal of respect for both Privatefirewall and Greg Salvato (and staff) and have had much correspondence with Greg regarding the product.
    (If you have occasion to read my posts in these forums you will see that I recommend it heartily.)

    My comments apply to both free and paid versions of OA and are not tainted by any prejudice whatsoever. There are features of OA (Free) which make it an exceptional product and I have discussed them with Greg in hope that someday similar features may be incorporated into PF as well.

    This is not a hypothetical question for me. I have been running only 2 security apps in real-time for several months. The 2 are:
    +Private FW (HIPS + FW)

    +Prevx/SOL (AV, Behavior Blocker, Webguard, Antikeylogger)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    On-demand/Fail-safe measures include:
    1- Firefox uses Avira-premium to auto-scan all browser-based downloads (as they occur)
    2- Keriver auto-images the system drive (cyclically, per schedule)
    3- Avira-premium auto-scans all drives (cyclically, per schedule)
    4- TinyWalker auto-scans for any changes to key files & registry items (daily, at startup)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    If 3 or 4 detects a blip, I restore an image & Poof -- suddenly it's yesterday! :cool:

    Lots of good ideas here. Wish I could use DefenseWall with 64bit. I'm going to try Online Armor free with Sandboxie for a while. Then Prevx SOL with Private Firewall again.
