    Hello,

I posted this in another thread, however, was advised to bring it over here. Here's that thread:

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=22899

    Here's the problem:

Whenever I attempt to download quicktime player, I receive a message stating that: "Your current security settings prohibit activeX controls on this page. As a result, the page will not display properly." I cannot get the download to start. The next page bluntly says: "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded."

I checked my settings and set the activeX ones to "enable", set the security to low, restarted my machine, and a few other long shots all to no avail.

The support site is absolutely useless and doesn't even have an email page to as the tech a question. Talk about horrible customer service.

The spec of my machine is well above the minimum requirements for the program too (3.2 P4, 1024 RAM, ATI 9800 AIW GC, etc...). My OS in Win XP Pro.

Any ideas? Of course if you see anything else I should remove... ;)

I ran Spybot first then adaware. Here's my log:

BTW, I've read through much of this board and wanted to thanks you for giving us PC security novices a bit of your time and knowledge. You are truly a valuable asset to the Internet community. I will surely recommend this site to my friends and board I belong to (if you don't mind of course).

    Hi garyknowz,

There are some things in your log that should not be there if your security settings were strict enough.
I can't imagine you wanted this one:

    Have you tried this method:

That's just it, my security is at medium usually but even when I set it to low, I get the same error messages.

And that is the method I use to download it. From the QuickTime site, I click "download quicktime" and the first error message ("Your current security settings prohibit activeX controls on this page. As a result, the page will not display properly.") comes up. It try again the the second error message ("Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded.") comes up.

    Too wierd.

And thanks for the heads up on that file. If you see any more, let me no.

Hmm. I Just tried with the standard security settings "High" and I got the prompt asking if I wanted to install. It took quite a while before it came up, but no complaints about my security settings. o_O

Do you see anything program runnign that *might* cause an issue?

Some firewalls might cause this behaviour, but I don't see any.
It could also be a popup-blocker:
    C:\PROGRA~1\PANICW~1\POP-UP~1\PSFree.exe

Disabling that might be worth a shot.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I tried that before but no luck.

Oh well. I guess I'll look for a Quicktime emulator of something. Any suggestions?.

Frustrating not know the issue though. As you well know, issues usually don't just go way, so sadly, I don't think I've seen the end of this.

    Cheers,
    Gary
