Anytime a research firm comes out with a report claiming something will happen by such and such time, you know (or should know) to take it with a pound of salt. For all we know, by 2016, smartphones may be antiquated, all U.S ISPs may offer gigabit internet connections as the low cost tier (that actually made me laugh as I typed that), and yada yada. None of these predictions ever turn out to be right on target, and next year they'll say 2020. None of them know, and none of us should care unless we're the manufacturer or MS.

Yes, & Sir Clive Sinclair, designer of the best selling ZX 81 personal computer predicted that we would all be driving these cars by the year 2000!

IDC in 2010 thought Windows Mobile would still have almost 10% share in 2014 :D

Just shows how much of these predicts is guesswork and how little is research.

    Cheers, Nick.

Was this not the same research firm that thought Android tablets would dominate? All I heard of was Windows 8/RT hardware at Computex.
