I never seen my internal webcam light go on, but I heard that some malicious websites and programs can turn it on and record you without the light going on and the stream the recording back to someone.

How can I protect myself from this happening and how can I know if it's happened before?

    Why do you think this?

I've also never heard of any malicious websites being able to access your webcam without permission while also bypassing the LED light. Maybe a program but I also doubt that.

If it really recorded you without your permission then Zemana Antilogger could have helped since it has an anti-webcam module.

And exactly what would they have streamed, and get out of it.Unless someone took complete control over your web cam, I would not worry about it.As mentioned already Zemana or Spyshelter may have protected you from this.

Ah yeah, that's cool. I just installed Zemana Antilogger the other day as it was free from giveawayoftheday. So I have Zemana Antilogger version 1.9.2.515, and on the left menu it says anti-webcam logger protection. So thanks for reminding me off this :)

I was just reading the Zemana Antilogger webcam section and Zemana Antilogger says it helps stop webcam programs that can trigger it without the LED being on. So according to Zemana Antilogger it can happen.

But it may smudge the lens if it makes contact with it.

Zemana may say that, and it may even be possible, but I've never heard of it in the real world.

Then add a tiny picture of your favorite celebrity/supermodel/politician, image toward lens, or just a small pice of paper between the lens and the tape. LOL

In device manager, disable the webcam and the soundcard used for it. Then use some physical cover for the webcam, I prefer a piece of paper, test its effectivity in video.

This, you don't need Zemana. I only enable it on my laptop when I need to use it.

Post-it notes. Use one to cover the lens.

No love for Zemana. I got it from giveaway of the day and so far I like it.

I have seen malwares doing this (running as a program from hard disk, not from direct web), but these are extremely few. Also I remember Spyshelter's Anti-Test having the test of this, but that never worked on my computer even after disabling ZAL and other securities.

I've often thought about how many people are having their webcams working against them and are completely oblivious to it.

I don't own one, but if I did it'd be physically disconnected any time I wasn't using it.
