If you dont want to use AVG free, you can get AntiVir free here: http://www.free-av.com

I dont use it myself (I use NOD32) but iv heard that AntiVir free is not bad at all for what you pay for it (nothing at all :p )

I am not aware of any other free AV's but AVG and AntiVir are the best I have heard of.

Good luck in your search, and welcome to the community! :D

NOD32 costs £23 for a year (not sure what that is in dollars, it keeps directing me to the GB site when i try to find out  )

well worth the money in my opinion, but its all down to personal preference. Try a few trials out (NOD32 offers a 30 day trial) and see what you like. if you still dont want to pay for your AV, then AVG or AntiVir are your best bets. I would probably go for AntiVir over AVG, but thats just my opinion. Try them out and see what you think. If you need facts and figures, go here: http://www.av-comparatives.org.

it will automatically renew the license before the expiration, when you update it.

@Firecat- I *think* he is seeking anything BUT Comodo (comobo?).

@babasa - If you want a really simple, free firewall that also offers good HIPS protection, then I heartily recommend Dynamic Security Agent (DSA).

DSA passes just about every leak test thrown at it. DSA makes ports invisible to port scans and protects unauthorized entry the same as a dedicated firewall. DSA also contains layer-3 Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) technology running in the background.
