The purpose of this post is to get advice from the drive experts here. It is NOT an Acronis TI issue, which for me works great.

I had two instances of validation failing in about 6 months. Today I got rid of three old images, roughly 14 gig each, made a backup which validated ok.
Then I ran chkdsk on this external drive (2 hours!) which revealed, maybe, the cause of those few failures.
Subsequent revalidation of 3 backups (2 images, 1 differential) validated ok.
But it worries me a bit. Does anything in the below record strike the experts as some sort of serious trouble? I'd think 192 bad sectors doesn't sound too good (zero such on the C system drive), nor the 'crosslinking'. Suggestions for the future, please.

    Thanks for replying!
I uninstalled the previous PC diagnostics and the one from your link didn't work :(
It's version 3.0.8. After InstallShield started, fatal error unfortunately:

An error occured during the move of data process :-113
    Component:
    File group:
    File ... docs and settings\wner\local settings\temp\WZSE2.TMP\Data1.hdr

I ran Everest, nothing useful there, no SMART report, nothing:
    [ Disk drives / Toshiba USB2.0 Drive R00 USB Device ]

    Device Properties:
Driver Description Toshiba USB2.0 Drive R00 USB Device
    Driver Date 7/1/2001
    Driver Version 5.1.2535.0
    Driver Provider Microsoft
    INF File disk.inf
    Hardware ID USBSTOR\DiskToshiba_USB2.0_Drive_R001.43

    I use XP-home, SP2.
Are you looking for something specific?
I've never used that diagnostic utility, no idea what it does, so didn't mind trashing it, but now that I did ... oooops :)

I installed that PC diagnostics now and ran it. There's a basic tab showing what computer I use and various data about it (system, MAC address, ...). Nothing about external drive.
There is another windows to select what to diagnose. External drives aren't included. I don't see what's relevant and/or what to run.

Please suggest what info you need and I'll post.

If the disk errors show up repeatedly, especially new bad sectors/bad clusters, then the probability is that your drive is failing, and along the way it's corrupt this that and the other file. If, so, for what drives cost these days, your best bet is to replace it

It's rare for a some bad clusters to pop up and that be the end of it. Much More often what happens is a few show up. Then after a while a few more, and the frequency and number increase until you get a total software crash from corrupt files or a harddisk crash.

    Thanks, Shieber.
That's what I was afraid of. I'll watch if the errors increase. I do have another external, so backups alternate. This little drive is less than one year in use! Don't they make any good drives these days? 1/2 year ago another external got trashed completely after 1 year of use.

Oh, thanks again for your and other experts contributions in this forum :)
