I want to get the latest version of AIM and I currently have version 6.8. What should I do if I want the latest version of AIM and get it safely? I just don't want any malware. I like AIM over Pidgin because it has more features.

sooflymami, I don't use AIM, but you can get the latest AIM 7.0.13.4 version, from FileHippo.com (All software is 100% spyware and virus free.).

It's "adware"...not really malware. They have banner ads in AIM. You can Google to a few guides that tell you how to edit the .js script to drop the banner ads.

Although AIM seems to be the target of malware attacks which spread through the network.

Thus I'm more fond of the universal IM programs like Trillian or Pidgin.

Just don't get the free version of Trillian it has adware on it, I remember having to clean up the PC for about 2 hours getting rid of that crap.

So if you get aim messenger by aim.com, it will not install any malwares? do you mean it will just show advertisements on aim only? and i'm currently using 6.8. i'm a little confused but 6.8 is safe and 7.0 is not?

Stick this little jewell on her box-

    http://aimpro.premiumservices.aol.com/index.html

free, a touch of open source, some security features

I used it before and kinda liked it but could not find any way for it to check aol email which was a killer for me. If anyone knows how to get aim pro to do that I would appreciated the info. I don't get a lot of aol email but the messenger is generally the main way I had of checking it.

Cheater maybe you can convince your mom to use this version of aim instead of their mainstream product? It actually seems like a pretty good free messenger and I don't remember it being ad supported. Might be worth a look.
