    hi pple,

i've just installed NOD32 and mucking around with the IMON settings. Anyway, if i go to http://www.nod32.com IMON will report http://www.toplist.cz/count.asp as the last file scanned. Isn't toplist.cz a warez
    site? Sorry if i'm wrong.

    laters...

It is listed in the HOSTS file produced by hpguru http://webpages.charter.net/hpguru/hosts/hosts.html

There is also a link to http://www.toplist.cz/ at the bottom left hand corner of every page I have looked at http://www.nod32uk.com/home/home.htm and http://www.nod32.com/ when using Mozilla 1.7.2 and hpguru's HOSTS file

Goodness me, no, I did not mean to imply that at all! I didn't mean anything more than I said - that I could see a link to that site at the bottom left hand corner of every NOD web site page I had visited. I am not saying, either, that the web site is about warez; it is listed in hpguru's HOSTS file, but the web site isn't in English, so I couldn't describe its content other than to say, when I did access it, it seemed to have various discussion formums. I really do not know enough about such things to even hint at an explanation as to why the link is there when I use Mozilla 1.7.2 and hpguru's HOSTS file and I am not about to speculate: it is, though, somewhat puzzling.

No, www.toplist.cz isn't a warez site, nor a discussion forum. It keeps a record of the number of visits to various servers in the Czech Republic. The sites are grouped under various categories - government institutions, education, lifestyle, music, etc. True, one of those categories is warez, but that's nothing to do with toplist, it just monitors how many people visit each site. Looks legit and serious to me.

If you go to toplist and click on software, you'll get a short list of sites that includes Alwil (the Czech company that makes Avast! av), Grisoft (Czech makers of AVG) and NOD32 (in case you didn't know, the people behind NOD are Czech).

So my guess is that when you go to NOD's site, this will record a hit in the records www.toplist.cz keeps - hence perhaps the reference in IMON? Although strictly speaking the site monitored is not www.nod32.com, but www.esetsoftware.cz (which is currently dysfunctional).

I just knew learning Czech would come in handy one of these days...
