html.iec what is the iec file extension?

Hi,

My firewall alerted me to this component, html.iec wanting internet access.

Yes thats right with .iec extension. I've never seen this extension before and have looked in the search engines for it, but found nothing.

Clicking on properties, it tells me, that it is microsoft html converter !
original file name html32.cnv

Has this file html.iec been altered by malware?

Should i allow this component, access to the net?

I've scanned it with all my av/at/antispyware s/w and scanned it online @ jottis virusscan, virustotal. All coming up uninfected.

Google this .... "microsoft html.iec converter" without quotes. Looks legit.

From neowin.net, "Slimming Down Windows XP" (towards the bottom) this item allows you to copy web-based text into Wordpad. Using other means myself I'm not quite sure if it needs access? Block it and see if c/p still works with WP ....
if that's what you were doing at the time.

Please Google yourself neutron as I'm experiencing some technical difficulties ...
