I recently implemented FDE with TrueCrypt and Windows 7 on my PC. I followed the instructions and made a very strong passphrase. I burned a RescueDisk and everything was fine.

I am using the computer and it requires my passphrase at the bootloader so no issues.

I thought TrueCrypt was supposed to slow your PC down? It hasn't slowed down my computer at all. My computer is a crappy P8700 Core 2 Duo laptop with 4GB of RAM and a slow 5400rpm HDD.

I'm worried that encryption isn't "working" even though everything seems to be all good.

Is this actually normal and TrueCrypt in fact doesn't slow down computers much?
