Is there any easy and simple way to replace START in windows XP home SP2 by some other words, by some software etc, esp if free.

I bookmarked this as it sounded very interesting but it took it this long to try it. I am unable to proceed beyond the modification to String 37 as there is none. The strings on this computer (XP SP2 Home) begin at 4072 and there is no 1033 extension anywhere. So, I was wondering if SP2 precludes its use or if this method has been used recently? Thanks

Strange. I have rechecked several times and uninstalled and reinstalled ResHacker and still don't see it. Maybe a Home/Pro difference. I'm off to check it on a computer with XP Pro now.

Sorry, no. I see it now. Thought it opened automatically. This is partially why I waited, knew I could screw it up. Thanks for your help.

You have to press it when you want to stop?
A bit strange, but we all know that it comes from microsoft, so I suppose it´s ok. :D

...although it will cause the Search, in r/c start not to work and icons not showing in the notification tray on some.

Good question, I never had a problem with Start, maybe they want it to change in "Begin".

I can confirm that the exact 37 - 1033 entry is also in 98SE. I used Resource Hacker to successfuly change it in a copy of EXPLORER.EXE i made. I havn't swapped them over yet though, but don't see why it wouldn't work.

    I changed it to, DO

I think it should not be tried. I was interested but I saw in one forum sombody telling after changing it some antimalware software start labelling important system files as malwares. So iI dropped the idea.
The software mentioned in post 10 is good and so simple but also seems buggy, I tried it with Rollback.
