I am trying to remove viruses, but everytime I try to run ad-aware, this notification pops up saying that windows is running in safe mode and ad-aware stops scanning. I remember seeing some way to prevent this but cannot find it now.

    1. Restart your PC
    2. As windows is loading hit F8 repeatly
    3. When the DOS like screen show read it
    4. select start windows normally
    5. you should see windows load normally
    6. run your adware scan
    7. go back and reregister with a better smelling nom de plume

I am trying to scan in safe mode. When in safe mode there is a periodic message that pops up reminding me I am in safe mode. This message disrupts ad-aware scans etc.

Kind of sounds like when you in safe mode that you dont have the user rights to run adaware totally and it stops short as a result. Possibly when you installed adaware you selected the choice only me instead of allowing all users to use the program. Try reinstalling the program and be sure to allow alll users. Hope this works, good luck ! :)

This doesn't answer your question, but the best way to scan your OS where you have FULL control is to run ad-aware from a BartPE boot disc.

It is easy to set up and scan.
