Hi I have a phantom "E" USB disk drive and I did everything try to remove it but not working. I even went to device manager and uninstall it and on reboot windows 8.1 installed it back. I even went to an old backup image and still its there. The best I could was to disable it in device manager and the drive icon is gone from my pc or my computer.

I was wondering can anyone tell me how to permanently remove it or uninstall it so it won't come back? Thanks in advance for your help.

When you right-click on the volume in Disk Management, is there an option to remove the volume letter?

ichito as far as I know SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 doesn't work on Windows 8.1 :(

Perhaps the phantom usb drive appeared after a failed 'safely remove hardware'?

    An article here suggests

Thanks for the reply. I got the phantom usb drive, because by mistake during a reboot I connected a USB stick to my pc and when it went to windows, the USB drive was not installed. SO I removed it and got stuck with a phantom drive.

I was so ~snipped~ that I deleted everything (partitions and drives) and formatted and went back to linux for now.
