That's kind of what I figure. As for me, just 1x decent application, rely on its real time protection, as...the rest of my time...I'd rather spend USING and ENJOYING my computer, not biting my fingernails dealing with hours upon hours upon hours of staring at AV scan progress bars.

The last time I actually did a SCAN of my home or office computer? Hmmm...probably over 1 year ago, when PAV (Personal AntiVirus) a rogue/fake alert jumped up through Firefox last year..just to ensure nothing made it to my HD. Prior to that? I don't think I scanned my PC for several years.

I don't scan often. If I do it's mostly with the resident AV (Nod32 for the time being), Asquared, MBAM and SAS. Not all 4 every time. When 2 say "clean" I'm convinced enough. Without scanning I'm also convinced enough actually :(.

No, but for many users here - for me too - the security and protection matters are not problems or distress, but part of the fun and the enjoy to use an OS. :) :thumb:

Use my on and off switches.. Seriously I beta test, if my computer slows down for no reason I switch to "Super Anti-Spyware" its always "atdmt[2]tex. or atdmt[3]tex" reboot my machine and that's that pretty much it..:thumb:

Prevx 3.0 or Avira Anti-Virus depends on my machine and how sick it is. Contrary to public opinion Microsoft has two of the best, Malicious Malware Remover and Their Defender, check out their change log sometime.. :thumb:

When I talk about it sometimes some folk believe that I spend a lot of time maintaining and protecting my computer. I don't; I'm lazy. The maintenance programs run automatically and the security programs run auto also, except for some manual scanners and rootkit detectors.

    For real time I have Online Armor Premium 4.0.0.15, Prevx 3.0 (with SafeOnline), and Sandboxie 3.44;

then I have Trojan Remover which runs a scan automatically at each boot, Wormguard, a passive script detector and blocker, and SpywareBlaster (with autoupdate).

The manual scanners and detectors are GMER, IceSword, Rootkit Unhooker, RootkitRevealer, and SUPERAntiSpyware. I run one of the manual programs every two or three days, do them in alphabetcal order; so I run each of them two or three times a month. They never detect any thing.

I include browser protection and extensions.

    Browser Security

    Prevx SafeOnline:
    Firefox 3.6.2
    I E 8

    SpywareBlaster:
    Firefox 3.6.2
    I E 8
    K-Meleon 1.5.4

    Individual:
    Firefox 3.6.2
extensions BetterPrivacy, C S Lite, NoScript, RefControl, WOT; built in popup blocker, Java control, cookie control, clear history, Private Browsing Session, Block Reported Attack Sites, phishing control, and encryption, VeriSign e mail certificates.

    Internet Explorer 8
built in Security Zones, cookie control, popup blocker, encryption, InPrivate Browsing, InPrivate Filtering, SmartScreen Filter, and Delete History.

    K-Meleon
extensions clearflash (flash cookies), liveIP, NoScript, refcontrol, unmaskparasites, and WOT; built in Privacy Permissions (Cookies, Java, JavaScript, Popups, Images, Image Animation, Flash, Ads, Page Colors, Frames, and HTTP Referer), and Encryption.

    SeaMonkey
extensions BetterPrivacy, CS Lite, NoScript, and WOT; built in Cookie, Image, Popup, and History control, and encryption, PGP and VeriSign e mail certs.

I spent most of my time writing for my blogs and writing poems:

    listeria
    spring beauty

Isn't it the truth, no need to hit the panic switch, wake up your tech, just grab a coke, I prefer grape juice. Most of my time is spent at my forum...

I only do on-demand scans (occasionally) in order to detect false positives, which I then report to their respective vendors:

    NOD32 (Virtually no FPs)
    Windows Defender (No FPs)
Outpost Pro FW anti-spyware: (NO FPs)
MBAM Paid (Infrequent FPs, usually quickly fixed with next update)
    SAS Free (Infrequent FPs)
a-squared anti-malware (Frequent FPs, usually from Ikarus)

(I only use the first 2 for real-time protection, and all are configured to alert only, not quarantine or delete)
