How many security programs and which do you use to scan your system ? I' m curious for the kind of the softwares that you use more than the number. To explain, I regularly use:

    - the av in real time: Avira
    - a second av only for an on demand scan
    - an antitroyan/antispy: A-Squared
    - a second antispy: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    - two antirootkits: RootkitRepeal and GMER
    - an autorun scanner: Online Solutions Autorun Manager.

Naturally, since I' m funny paranoid, :), may be I use also something else.

A-Squared and Super Antispyware for On-Demand scanning. Occasionally use online scans such as Housecall. That's about it.

    Only MSE.

I was also using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware until recently, but after about 6 months using it and no infections reported, I uninstalled it.

Usually whatever realtime malware app I am using if it has a scanning feature and the usual on demanders like SAS and Malwarebytes.

    A-Squared only.
Use Hitman Pro and submit to online scanners (I download them in the moment) when i feel something is suspicious.

Avira is resident on my 3 machines (2 premium + 1 Personal).

In the last 12 months I have scanned my systems once every 3 months using these scanners within Shadow Defender or ShadowUser: MBAM, A-Squared, PrevX, Hitman Pro.

No malware has ever been found and no FPs either which if anything shows a certain consistency within these scanners results. I don't keep them installed on my systems and I think that I will stop altogether using other scanners than Avira, as Shadow Defender and Avira are more than adequate together.

I have McAfee as AV & I use Win Defender & SUPERAntiSpyware as an on-demand scanner. I used to have others but felt that they were surplus to requirements.

Dr.CureIt! and MBAM - all as on-demand scaners. Scan once per few months. Not needed scan too often since my first layer of protection is Prevention, not detection.

My home systems..just MSE real time protection
Clients infested rigs...many programs are used to clean in a "shotgun approach".

I normally don't scan my PC often. Around every three month's I'll do a scan with Panda Cloud and Malwarebytes.

Wow you must be pretty tired at the end of the day. Please come over to Linux and find peace of mind. While you are at it why don't you try Ubuntu?

    Thanks.

Is it safe to say that most people on this thread spend most of their time protecting their computers then to actually enjoying them? Am I wrong to ask?

    Thanks.

1 Ya, I tried and used Mandriva, Linux Mint and Kubuntu. I don't like some things about Linux, but it's not the thread to talk about. And I'm not interested to.

2 Anyway, the av in real time works himself, and I run the antirootkit and antispy scans once in a week, and switching them, as I think the other users. What did you believe ? :D

3 " funny paranoid " means that security is a fun not a distress. :)

I'm using Vipre and Malwarebytes to scan my system. Sometimes maybe ESET Online Scanner?
