    Hi,

This is comparable to what I have.

What make and model of computer do you have? (ie: Dell, XPS 420)

What antivirus/antispyware do you normally have running?

What kind of software is equipped with your PC? (ie: Intel Viiv, Roxio etc)

    Merry Christmas!

    Hi,

How did you get yours to 40? I'm running in the 65-75 range.

    Regards,

    Mark.

Vista nothing, I run XP my friend :) And now, after a little trip to BlackViper and finishing up my P2P downloads, I'm at *drumroll*.....26 processes.

Edit: Lol, my dumb butt never even looked at the whole title thread...oh well, I'm still proud of my 26 processes even if it is the wrong OS ;)

Most of the time 75 on Vista Ultimate. I have tried to cut the number of processes in the past and brought it down to 64-65. It didn't affect the computer at all in terms of speed. On the other hand there are situations whereby disabling processes might stop something inadvertently, leaving you guessing what caused it.

Nowadays I leave them all running set by default. Vista is not XP, it is designed to run a lot of processes.

May I ask you what is it exactly that makes you proud of having 26 processes running instead of 40? I'm asking you, don't take it personally, I have noticed that many members are very happy with less processes, and I was wondering why people wouldn't be happy having a computer with more processes (read more sophisticated) than less (read more spartan).

More doesn't equal sophisticated :) The reason is, the more processes that are running, the more taxing it is on a system (unless you're one of those 4-8Gb RAM people with a duo/quad core processor). I'm a gamer too, so I want as much resources available as possible. I recently switched from Avast antivirus over to NIS 2009, and now I have even less than before, 23 processes when not browsing or running another program.

The poll was supposed to be exclusively for Windows Vista.

45 processes (including firefox) on Vista Home premium. I can lower number of processes to 40 if I disable acer empowering services ;)
